Rambouillet, a town between nature and royal heritage
Located in the Yvelines region, about fifty kilometers from Paris, Rambouillet is a town with a unique charm, blending unspoiled nature with historical heritage. Known for its majestic château, a royal and then presidential residence, Rambouillet has long been a place of power and relaxation for French sovereigns. The château's grounds, which stretch over hundreds of hectares, are home to remarkable flora and fauna, as well as iconic buildings such as the Queen's Dairy and the Shell Cottage. But beyond its historical prestige, the town also seduces with its pleasant living environment, its forests accessible to walkers, and its active policy on sustainable development. Rambouillet is close to tourist attractions in Essonne, which are must-sees during a stay in this destination.
A community focused on naturism: the link between Rambouillet and Héliomonde
What may seem surprising at first glance is the connection between the town of Rambouillet and our Héliomonde naturist campsite, located in Vielle-Saint-Girons in the Landes region. This connection is mainly due to the naturist community that has developed around Rambouillet since the 1950s. Many families from the Paris region, particularly from Yvelines, have made Héliomonde their preferred holiday destination. Although Héliomonde was historically located near Paris (in Saint-Chéron, in Essonne), naturists from Rambouillet actively participated in its attendance and the dissemination of naturist values. When some of these members discovered the Vielle-Saint-Girons site, they helped to create a connection between these two places, sharing the spirit of freedom, respect for nature and well-being. Even today, it is not uncommon to come across holidaymakers from Rambouillet in Héliomonde, perpetuating a discreet but lasting tradition.
A living territory in the heart of the forest
The Rambouillet Forest, which covers more than 200 km², is one of the largest forested areas in the Île-de-France region. It constitutes an exceptional green lung, ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and wildlife observation. This natural heritage makes Rambouillet a true ecotourism center, popular with both residents of the Île-de-France region and tourists in search of nature. The city promotes its environment with educational facilities such as the Espace Rambouillet, managed by the National Forestry Office, where you can get up close to deer, does, eagles, and other birds of prey. Rambouillet is thus much more than a residential suburb; it is a city anchored in environmental dynamics, looking to the future while protecting a rare living environment on the outskirts of the capital.
